Movie Review: Now You See Me (2013)

Now You See Me Movie is  French-American caper thriller film directed by Louis Leterrier. It was realesed on May 31, 2013. And on August 9, 2013, the Production Home will make the sequel with production beginning in year 2014.  The film stayed in the top 10 of the North American box office for six weeks after release. The film has earned $117,723,989 at the North American domestic box office and $234,000,000 internationally, totaling to a $351,723,989 worldwide against a $75 million budget.

1.      Synopsis of the Movie

Now You See Me Movie tell about four talented magician that work together after unknown benefactor collected them. They trick known by old magician, Thaddeus Bradley. FBI try to find The Four Horsemen (called to that four talented magician),  because they robbing the Bank and they do deceit in their show. And FBI worked together with Thaddeus Bradley. But the Ending, Thaddeus Bradley trapped by the Four Horsemen and Dylan Rhodes. Because Dylan Rhodes is the master of them.

2.      Characters

-          Jesse Eisenberg as J. Daniel Atlas (The Lovers), an arrogant illusionist and street magician who is the ringleader of the Four Horsemen.

-          Mark Ruffalo as Dylan Rhodes, an FBI agent assigned to investigate the bank theft.

-          Woody Harrelson as Merritt McKinney (The Hermit), a hypnotist, mentalist, and a self-proclaimed psychic. He is the oldest of the Four Horsemen.

-          Isla Fisher as Henley Reeves (The High Priestess), an escapist and stage magician. She is also J. Daniel Atlas's former assistant and ex-girlfriend.

-          Dave Franco as Jack Wilder (Death), a sleight of hand illusionist, street magician, and pickpocket. Additionally, he is able to imitate other people's voices and to pick locks. He is the youngest of the Four Horsemen.

-          Mélanie Laurent as Alma Dray, an Interpol agent who is partnered up with Dylan Rhodes to investigate the bank theft.

-          Morgan Freeman as Thaddeus Bradley, an ex-magician who, for thirty years, has made money by revealing the secrets behind other magicians' tricks.

-          Michael Caine as Arthur Tressler, an insurance magnate and the Four Horsemen's sponsor.

-          Michael Kelly as Agent Fuller, an FBI agent who serves as Rhodes' sidekick.

-          Common as Agent Evans, Rhodes's supervisor at the FBI.

-          José Garcia as Étienne Forcier, the account holder at the Credit Republicain de Paris.

-          Elias Koteas (uncredited) as Lionel Shrike, a magician who drowned while performing a trick thirty years earlier, and eventually revealed to be agent Rhodes' father.

3.      Introduction, Climax, and Ending

-          Intoduction

Four gifted magicians (Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Henley Reeves, and Jack Wilder) are brought together by an unknown benefactor. One year later, perform in Las Vegas as "The Four Horsemen", sponsored by insurance magnate Arthur Tressler. For the finale, a member of the audience is invited to help them in their next trick: robbing a bank.. One of audience selected and his bank name is Crédit Républicain de Paris in Paris.  That audience member is Étienne Forcier, an account holder at the Crédit Républicain de Paris. Forcier is apparently teleported to his bank in Paris, where he activates an air-duct that vacuums up the money and showers it onto the crowd in Las Vegas. Upon discovering that the money really is missing from the bank vault, FBI agent Dylan Rhodes is called to investigate the theft and is partnered with Interpol agent Alma Dray. They interrogate the Four Horsemen but release them when no explanation can be found. Dylan meets Thaddeus Bradley, a former magician who makes money by revealing the secrets behind other magicians' tricks.

-          Climax

Alma learns about rumors of a secret society of magicians called "The Eye", who steal from the rich and powerful to give to the needy, and suggests to a skeptical Dylan the case might be tied to a magician named Lionel Shrike, whom Thaddeus had exposed 40 years earlier and who was so embarrassed that he undertook a dangerous underwater stunt involving a safe, and accidentally drowned. The Horsemen are located in New York, but they escape during the raid to arrest them; however, Jack is presumed dead when his car crashes and bursts into flames and explodes.

-          Ending

The remaining Horsemen vow to continue and complete their final performance, stealing a safe made by the same company that made the safe Lionel Shrike died in. They perform their one last show at 5 Pointz during which they seemingly vanish into thin air, transforming into loads of money that is showered on the crowd. The money turns out to be a forgery and the real money is found stashed in Thaddeus's Range Rover. Thaddeus is then assumed to be the fifth Horseman and is arrested, although he claims that he was framed. FBI take him to jail. And there, Dylan tell everything about himself who is collected The Horsemen until now. And he is magician too. And finally, Dylan meet The Four Horsemen and work as partner.

4.      Language Expression

-          “Hang on, hang on”: Merritt try to find what happened with the symbol using his mind.

-          “I got nothing”: Merritt feel confused, because he didn’t get anything from his mind.

-          “I don’t know, what I really want to meet them”: Henley feel so excited, because the blueprint prove to them someone want to work together with them.

-          “Actually, I need to take it”: the crew of the show won’t anyone to take video when the show be held.

-          “Now who here has a bank would like us to rob?”: Daniel ask audience to scream their Bank account.

-          “I gonna kill you”: Dylan was angry with Daniel, because Daniel won’t tell how the Four Horsemen robbing the Bank in Paris. Although the show in Las Vegas.

5.      Comment

-          When I watched this movie last week, I found a teamwork that had responsibility. However, they came from different flow. But, they could make it a great harmonic.

-          I think this movie give much lesson to me, such as:

·         Keep try, although many people don’t like us.
